Stud Terms & Conditions

Visiting Mares for Artificial Insemination

1. Mares arriving to stud must:

(a) bring veterinary confirmation that they have been examined within the last week and are free from any contagious or infectious disease.

(b) have been wormed within the last 7 days

(c) have hind shoes removed

(d) have their passport with them

2. It is preferable that mares are up to date with their flu and tetanus vaccinations.

3. Mare owners must advise the Stud of all previous breeding history. For Mares with troubled breeding history and or with a history of being barren the ‘free return policy’ (see below) will not always be offered.

4. The Stud’s veterinary surgeons will perform the required veterinary work to each mare and the bill for such work will be the responsibility of the Mare owner. Details of the veterinary surgeon will be given to the Mare owner so that each party is aware of the work required at any time and the cost thereof. There is the possibility of a ‘package cost’ to be negotiated between the Mare owner and the veterinary surgeon.

5. Mares or Mares with foal at foot arriving at Stud cannot be insured by the Stud. Mare owners must carry appropriate insurance.

6. The Stud accepts no liability for any accident or injury to any visiting Mare nor any foal at foot; nor the loss theft or straying of any visiting Mare or foal at foot and the Mare owner in sending the Mare to Stud accepts that this is a fundamental term of agreement made between us.

7. In the case of any injury to any visiting Mare or foal at foot, the veterinary surgeon will be called, and unless it is an emergency the Mare owner will first be advised by telephone of the situation. The cost of all veterinary work will be the Mare owner’s in any event.

Visiting Mares for Natural Covering – polo pony mares only.

1. Mares arriving to stud must:

(a) bring veterinary confirmation that they have been examined within the last week and are free from any contagious or infectious disease.

(b) Have clear current certificates for both EVA and CEM

(c) have been wormed within the last 7 days

(d) have hind shoes removed and preferably their front shoes as well

(e) have their passport with them

2. It is preferable that mares are up to date with their flu and tetanus vaccinations.

3. Mare owners must advise the Stud of all previous breeding history and any vice or aggression which might make it unsuitable for the Mare to be covered naturally or to run with the Stallion or other visiting Mares. For Mares with troubled breeding history and or with a history of being barren the ‘free return policy’ (see below) will not always be offered.

4. The Stud’s veterinary surgeons will perform the required veterinary work to each mare and the bill for that work will be the responsibility of the Mare owner. Details of the veterinary surgeon will be given to the Mare owner so that each party is aware of the work required at any time and the cost thereof.

5. Mares or Mares with foal at foot arriving at Stud cannot be insured by the Stud. Mare owners must carry appropriate insurance.

Fresh or chilled semen delivery to Mare at home.

1. The Stud must be kept informed over a period of 48 hours as to the time the semen might be required to be delivered to the Mare’s home.

2. Semen must be ordered the night before for next day delivery as collection takes place first thing in the morning and semen pre-booked takes preference.

Frozen semen delivery to Mare at home.

1. For UK based Mares,  the Stud  must be kept informed over a period of 72 hours as to the time the semen might be required to be delivered to the Mare’s home.

2. Semen for a specific date and time must be ordered 24 hours in advance as relevant Health Papers for the semen need to be raised.

3. For frozen semen to be exported to Europe please give the Stud 2 weeks’ notice.

General Stud fees and Costs.

1. Stud fee per Stallion is as stated on the relevant page of this website. This fee will not carry V.A.T.

2. All fees owed to the Stud must be paid prior to the Mare leaving Stud or prior to the shipment of any semen. The Mare owner of visiting Mares will be given the breakdown of the Stud costs incurred within 24 hours of being advised the Mare is ready to return home.  For the delivery of fresh chilled or frozen semen the breakdown of costs will be given prior to shipment.

3. Visiting Mares kept on grass livery will cost £ 8.00 per day – this increases to £10 per day for Mare with foal at foot.

4. For a Visiting Mare needing to be stabled for any reason the cost will be £15 per day – this increases to £20 per day for a Mare with foal at foot.

5. Collection fee for visiting Mares for AI is £85.00 per insemination attempt and is £85 for each dose of fresh or chilled semen sent to the Mare’s home.

6. For the work required by the Stud Groom to assist Veterinary Surgeon in scanning, AI etc for all visiting Mares is £40 to cover the entire period whilst the Mare is at Stud.

7. Fresh or chilled semen only: Shipping costs will be added to the Stud Fee and Collection fee. The post office average next day delivery cost is £35.00.  Weekends and Bank Holidays attract much higher shipping costs so should if possible be avoided.

8. Frozen Semen only: Shipping costs – including container hire if needed - and the cost of raising Health Papers will be added to the Stud Fee. These will vary depending on destination. The cost quotation will be given in advance but will be in the region of £200 for the UK and £350 for Europe.

The Stud offers a ‘free return’ the following year for any Mare certified by a veterinary surgeon to be not in foal as at 1st December of the year in which the mare was covered or inseminated. This will exclude mares that our veterinary surgeon deems to be compromised with a view to breeding.

For fresh or chilled semen to be sent out under this term the collection and delivery costs will be charged.

For frozen semen to be sent out under this term the delivery and health papers costs will be charged.

For any Mare revisiting the stud, the collection fee, the livery costs and the grooms fee will be charged.
